The Reading Guide

Fifteen Minutes a Day

Today’s reading

In 1916 the publishers of the Harvard Classics issued a guide that sets a reading for every day of the year, each about fifteen minutes long, chosen for its day: a birthday, an anniversary, a season. “Fifteen minutes a day,” it promised, would give “the essentials of a liberal education.” Here each day’s reading opens at its page in this edition and in the scan, with the Great Ideas its pages are indexed under. The guide itself can be read page by page in its original form.

In your calendar

Each day’s reading as an all-day event that does not block your time, with a link back to its page here.

The schedule was transcribed from the Internet Archive’s scans of the guide (items harvardclassicsf0000lldc and Harvard-Classics) and checked against this edition; two readings are adjusted to its pagination, as noted on their days.
